After a 9 hours flight from Zurich to Miami and a 2 hours waiting at the immigration we finally checked in in the Crowne Plaza Hotel @ Miami Airport. Then we decided to get a late evening snack at the Cuban bistro near the hotel. I took a Caesar salad, and it was massive! A true meal, not only a snack… First lesson I learned: Food is king 😀

From the second day on we were cruising around with our rented Chevrolet Traverse LT. First stop was Palm Beach, where we spent some time in the city and on the beach. Later we drove further in direction of Cocoa Beach. A rocket launch was expected in the early morning (4 a.m), so this was a good point to view that. Unfortunately due to technical problems, the launch was postponed. In Cocoa Beach there is a Ron Jon’s Surf Shop, which is open 24h. At SANDBAR we had some Hurricane Buckets, which brought us a Hurricane in our heads.
Next stop was Orlando. The first day we visited the Universal Studios Islands of Adventure theme park with crazy rollercoasters like “Incredible Hulk”, “Dragon Challenge” and so on. The second day we spent shopping at Orlando’s Premium Outlets.
Then we had to change our plans a little bit. There were some Hurricane warnings in St. Petersburg and other cities in the gulf area. For this reason we went back to the west coast, to Cocoa Beach. Locals told us that Hurricanes bring a lot of water.
A day later we saw that when we drove 500 miles to Key West. We arrived in Key West one day after Hurricane Isaac hit it. There was a lot of water on the streets and a lot of workers cleaned the road. In the afternoon the most beaches were clean, but there was a horrible seaweed smell in the air. In the evening we checked out different bars, e.g. Sloppy Joe’s, Rick’s or the Hard Rock Café.
The southern part of the Everglades was a stopover on the way to Naples. In the Everglades we visited an alligator farm and took an airboat ride. Unfortunately we didn’t saw a wild alligator. Finally we arrived in wealthy Naples, and were lucky to find a good place (the Seashell Motel). A moonlight bathing session in the sea followed.
From Naples we went to Sanibel Island, because of the large amount of shells at the beach it could also be called Sanishell Island. The whole beach consists of shells. Then we went to Fort Myers beach, which was a tip of the receptionist at Seashell motel. The final stop on this day was in St. Petersburg, where we found a motel located directly at the sea. It was definitely time for a sunset bath on this beautiful beach. So we did!
In St. Petersburg we visited “The Pier” mall and the Clearwater beaches, which were both awesome.
From St. Pete we drove directly to Fort Lauderdale, where we stayed just over night and not for visiting anything. At the end of this ten days travelling around, the odometer of the car counted 1600 miles more. 😀

Then we arrived in South Beach Miami, and the parties began… Miami: CRAZY, SEXY, WILD! 😀
